Brush your teeth to save on life insurance
Did you know that one of the causes of heart disease is poor oral hygiene? That’s right. A study published in the medical journal BMJ found that those who rarely or never brushed their teeth were 70 percent more likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke or other heart-related condition compared to those who brushed their teeth regularly, twice a day.
The findings aren’t surprising considering that research has proved a link between heart disease and gum disease. Gum inflammation caused by gingivitis can spread throughout the body and contribute to plaque buildup in the arteries. Gingivitis has been shown to increase the risk of heart disease by 44 percent for those under 65.
What does this have to do with life insurance? Everything! A diagnosis of heart disease can lead to extremely high life insurance rates, or even worse, you may be uninsurable – leaving your family financially vulnerable if you were to die unexpectedly.
So to keep your body healthy and your life insurance rates affordable, add “brush twice a day” to your list of heart-healthy lifestyle habits.
