Saving you money for life tip: Top 10 back to school ways to save
Do you have children who are anxious to go back to school with a new outfit, new backpack and shiny new school supplies? If you’re a parent with school-age children, I’m sure you’re busy shopping for the ‘what seems to be endless’ list of school supplies. And since you’re doing so much spending, it’s important to find every imaginable way to save. Check out these 10 tips I found from 4029tv.com.
- Take the school supply list home and find out what was left over from last year’s supplies…chances are there are some things you wont need to buy again.
- Buy in bulk. Large quantities can save money, and if you don’t need 500 pencils, see if you can split the cost with another parent.
- Pay attention to the Sunday ads. Great back to school deals can often be found at stores you might not expect.
- Consignment shops — long time favorite of penny-pinching moms — can offer great deals, and it makes sense, as kids outgrow clothing so quickly it doesn’t always pay to play the retail game.
- Some states offer tax-free days or weekends. Head to these states (if they’re near your home). You can typically purchase clothing items up to $100 dollars tax-free, though you have to weigh the savings versus what you would spend in gas money.
- Look out for backpack giveaways. Often churches hold events where they give out backpacks full of school supplies.
- Garage sales are easily found, the prices are rock bottom and you can visit several in one morning. As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
- Shop online. It saves gas, saves time and is a great way to easily compare prices without running all over town.
- Delay dropping those dollars, especially when buying clothes. As back to school sales stretch well into September, don’t feel like you have to stock up all at once.
10. And the number one way to save on back to school shopping: a clothing swap. Get together with other families and have everyone bring the clothes their kids can’t fit into and trade. Chances are, everyone will go home with something new, and not a penny will be spent.
